The annual Inter-Schools Chess Challenge was held recently at the Phoenicia Le Meridien. This year it was a bumper event with more than 70 students taking part.

Favourites Gian Frangisk Abela Junior College were the winners with 17 points. The team was composed of Oliver Said (captain), Matthew Saliba and Noel Grima.

Close behind them, with 16.5 points, were last year's winners St Elias, composed of Christian Pullicino, Fabiano Bugelli and Sam Sacco.

The best player on Board One was Mark Cardona. On Board Two the top player was George Marinov and Sacco on Board Three.
