July's mean air temperature was a fraction warmer than the July norm recorded for the past 57 years, the Meteorological Office said yesterday. At 26.7 °C, it was 0.6 °C above the norm.

The warmest day last month was the 8th when the temperature reached 35 °C.

July was also less sunny than normal - there was an average of 11 hours and 30 minutes of bright sunshine a day, under the July norm of 12 hours since 1928.

The average daily humidity was 60 per cent, slightly lower than the norm of 68 per cent recorded since 1951.
