Members of the judiciary need to double for more efficient administration of judges, Mr Justice Lawrence Quintano said today.

The judge was referring to a submission on punishment by lawyer Roberto Montalto who asked him to take into consideration that his client had been waiting for years to be tried for attempted murder.

Marco Vella, 43, was yesterday jailed for four years after he was found guilty on Wednesday of causing grievous bodily harm to a school friend in an argument.

Mr Justice Quintano said that to keep the ratio between the number of adjudicators and the population, the members of the judiciary had to be doubled.

This was the situation on the continen,t he said, where judges and magistrates still complained they could not cope with the amount of work.
