Kevin Camilleri, 29 of Gharghur, was today jailed for a month after he admitted to stealing a Chevrolet Kalos car and going on a joyride.

The car was stolen from Msida last Friday.

The court heard how Mr Camilleri is an alcoholic and taking treatment to help him kick the habit because there is no place at Sedqa for him to start a rehabilitation programme as yet.

Magistrate Michael Mallia, after noting that the accused had breached bail conditions and a suspended jail term, said a prison term was justified.

In a separate case, Reno Grech, 54, was fined €250 and remanded in prison after he breached bail conditions imposed in November after he was charged of theft from his father.

Police Inspector Fabian Fleri, told the court that the accused had not signed the bail book once since November 12.
