Joe Saliba has been re-elected president of the Malta Dockers’ Union.

Some 360 of 370 dock workers were eligible to vote, 319 of whom cast their ballot, the union said. The vote was taken last week.

Mr Saliba obtained 197 votes. Paul Abela was runner-up with 102 and Anthony Chircop came in a distant third with 19 votes.

The dock workers also voted for six executive committee members out of 20 who contested the election.

The elected members are Clinton Sammut, Aldo Azzopardi, Elton Borg, Reno Bugeja, Donald Muscat and Paul Abela.

The union will hold its general assembly next month.
