A piece of British horse racing history was made yesterday when for the first time in its 253-year-old history a Jockey Club disciplinary panel inquiry was open to the press.
The Jockey Club has recently moved to new premises in London's Shaftesbury Avenue and says it is now in a position to implement a previously stated initiative to open up some disciplinary inquiries.
Officials say the initiative will bring about greater transparency and accountability and hope it will further increase confidence in the disciplinary process.
Inquiries and appeals now open to the press will be confined to incidents which occur during a race where the evidence is largely on video camera.
