The Labour Party has expressed its condolences on the death of author JJ Camilleri, who was 84.

"Mr Camilleri dedicated his life to education and used to put those most in need at the forefront" the party said.

The party praised his for his commitment to literature, having published many poems and novels which reflected his beliefs in social justice, an open society and freedom from intolerance and discrimination. 

Mr Camilleri was also a former member of the Broadcasting Authority.
