Birkirkara chalked up their third successive victory when they eased past Floriana 3-1 at the Tedesco Stadium this afternoon.
The Malta champions took just four minutes to break the stalemate. Shola Haruna sent a precise throughball towards Jhonnattann who blasted the ball past Floriana goalkeeper Daniel Handford.
Floriana tried to regroup but it was the Stripes who maintained the initiative and it was no surprise that they doubled their lead four minutes from the break.Rowen Muscat sent a delightful long pass towards Jhonnattann who beat the Greens’ offside trap and cooly slotted the ball past Handford.
Floriana brought in Diogo and Gianluca Favero after the interval and the changes seemed to leave the desired dividends as the Greens managed to pull a goal back on 54 minutes. Igor Coronado picked up possession in the Birkirkara half and burst into the area before placing the ball past Birkirkara goalkeeper Justin Haber.
But the Stripes quickly regained their poised and sealed the points on 73 minutes when from a Jhonnattan corner kick, substitute Frank Temile saw his downward header finished past Handford off a deflection by Sacha Borg.
Birkirkara striker Jhonnattann was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
