Eden Cinemas in St Julian’s are broadcasting George Balanchine’s brilliant ballet classic Jewels live from The Royal Opera House in London.
The ballet evokes the sparkle of emeralds, rubies and diamonds. The French romantic music of Fauré provides the impetus for the subtlety and lyricism of Emeralds, while the fire of Rubies comes from Stravinsky and the jazz-age energy of New York. Grandeur and elegance complete the ballet with the splendour of Imperial Russia and the music of Tchaikovsky in Diamonds.
Jewels is a masterclass in many facets of classical ballet and of The Royal Ballet itself, with the virtuoso choreography of Balanchine, the intensity of the soloists and the precision of the entire company.
The screening will be held tonight at 8.15pm. The entry fee includes a complimentary glass of wine and parking at the Eden Leisure car park. Tickets may be purchased from the Eden Cinema box office or online at www.edencinemas.com.mt.
