Jenson Button in a McLaren won a thrilling Canadian Grand Prix tonight after passing world champion Sebastian Vettel on the last lap in a race which stretched over four hours because of a two-hour rain suspension.

Vettel finished second with his Red Bull teammate Mark Webber finishing third.

German star Vettel, who led from pole, spun on the last lap and Button seized his opportunity.

Vettel now leads the championship by 60 points from Button.

"We knew he had to put pressure on Sebastian, and Sebastian made a mistake. From Jenson, that's the stuff of champions, that's the stuff of dreams," said McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh.

It was an incredible race by Button, who was involved in collisions with team-mate Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who both retired. He also suffered a drive-through penalty for over-speeding under a yellow flag but still managed to make it from last position to first, in what was described as the greatest victory of his career.
