On the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5, the International Ocean Institute - Malta Operations Centre (IOI-MOC) of the University of Malta, together with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), launched a campaign aimed at compiling a comprehensive database of jellyfish records from Maltese waters this summer, as well as creating awareness regarding jellyfish swarms.

The initiative, 'Spot the Jellyfish', seeks to involve the public, including schoolchildren, divers, bathers and beach-goers, to collect the necessary data.

The campaign, headed by Aldo Drago and Alan Deidun from IOI-MOC, has so far seen informative posters put up by the MTA in various areas along the coastline.

Those who would like to pass on any information can e-mail ioi-moc@um.edu.mt, SMS 7922 2278, visit www.ioikids.net/jellyfish or send any leaflets found at beaches and schools by post.
