Former Nationalist MP Jean-Pierre Farrugia has announced his retirement from politics after failing to get re-elected.

He said on facebook that he will remain a member of the PN but will not actively participate in politics.

Losing heavily at the polls in three years could result in serious infighting leaving the PN in shambles.- Dr Farrugia to Dr Gonzi in 2010

Dr Farrugia recalled that he had held positions in the PN for 30 years. He said he had no problem identifying himself with the PN's glorious past but not with the current modus operandi which had extinguished his efforts to work for equity so that no one in society would fall back.

He said his most bitter humiliation was in February 2010 when a sincere e-mail he had sent to the party leader, copied to the other members of the parliamentary group, had, through the action of some Judas, ended up in the public domain, but no one took any action against whoever may have been involved.
