Updated: Jason Micallef, the former general secretary of the Labour Party, has decided not to contest the general election.

Labour leader Joseph Muscat told the PL general conference yesterday that he had asked Mr Micallef to concentrate on the PL broadcasting media during the general election.  He thanked and praised Mr Micallef, saying he had confirmed he was a man for the party.

Mr Micallef, who is the chairman of One Productions, said he had agreed with the request.

Earlier this week Mr Micallef called on Labour supporters to remain united behind the young and enthusiastic leadership of Joseph Muscat and to back him as he prepared to take Malta on the road to progress and stability.
