A man who said he lived in a stable in Marsa was today jailed for two years after he pleaded guilty to stealing €650 from a bar in his hometown.

Kersten Catania, 23, who has already bagged convictions for other petty thefts, admitted to stealing the cash from McKay Bar in Marsa on January 11. He also admitted to breaching previous court orders and relapsing.

Magistrate Anthony Vella jailed him for two years after hearing how Mr Catania, who is a drug addict, has several convictions for similar thefts. 

Police inspector Robert Vella prosecuted while lawyer Gianluca Caruana curran appeared for the man. 

In 2011, Mr Catania had been jailed for seven months for stealing money from the Marsa Golf Club. In January last year he was placed on probation for three years for stealing money from the Qormi Football Club Nursery in 2009.
