A Somali man who wanted to renew a passport that belonged to someone else was sentenced to one month in prison after admitting to making a false statement.

Abuukar Ahmed Qadar, 27, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli to making a false statement when trying to renew a passport belonging to Abdisalam Mohamed Elmi.

Police Inspector Mario Haber prosecuted.

Lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for Mr Qadar as legal aid.
