A man was jailed on Tuesday after telling a police inspector outside a court room he would stab him in the eyes with his keys.

The threat was made last December after Mr Justice David Scicluna revoked the bail granted to Silvio Buttigieg, 36.

Police Inspector Victor Aquilina had testified that Mr Buttigieg was caught outside in the early hours when one of his bail conditions clearly stated he should be in by midnight. The police filed an application for his bail to be revoked. Mr Justice Scicluna upheld the request and Mr Buttigieg lost his €4,660 deposit and a €16,310 personal guarantee.

On leaving the court room, Mr Buttigieg turned to the prosecuting officer, Police Inspector Jesmond Borg, telling him he would stick his keys in his eyes.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit found him guilty of harassing the officer and took into consideration the fact that he had relapsed before jailing him for seven months.
