Melvyn Pace, 25 of Valletta, was today jailed for two years after he admitted to drug trafficking, possession of heroin and injuring police constable Joseph Campbell. He also admitted relapsing.

A court was told that Mr Pace had been sitting in his car and had been carrying two sachets of heroin. When he saw the police approach, he tried to swallow the drug and drive away.

The constable reached into the car and tried to stop him from swallowing the drug, and he was injured when the car started moving.

Pace was also fined €500 and had his licence suspended for six months.
