Peter Joseph Bonnici was jailed for seven years and six months and fined €17,400 today after, through plea bargaining, he admitted in court to cultivating cannabis on and before June 2004.

He was convicted of cultivating the plants at his house in Zejtun.

The police said they had found 179 plants in cultivation, 513 dried plants and  1,785 seeds in the house.

The police said the plants could yield between 693 and 1,386 joints. The amount of drugs was considerable and certainly not exclusively for personal use, the court was told.
