A man who pleaded guilty to a string of thefts from nine cars will spend 28 months behind bars after conviction by the Magistrates' Court today.

The thefts took place in April and May 2016.

Amadeo Grima, 36, from Birzebbuga admitted to having raided three Toyota vehicles, two Isuzu, a Kia, a Honda, a Chevrolet and an Alfa Romeo. The cars were parked in Luqa, Paola, Fgura, Birzebbuga and Hamrun.

He stole various items including a  tablet, a camera, a laptop and mobile phones. The court heard the accused admit to having damaged the third party property in the course of the break-ins.

Taking note of the man's guilty plea, as well as the fact that he breached the conditions imposed by various previous judgments, the court, presided by Magistrate Joseph Mifsud, imposed a jail term of 28 months.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
