A young man who failed to take previous opportunities given to him by the courts to reform was yesterday jailed for stealing a stereo from a car.

Darren Cross, 25, of Birkirkara, admitted to stealing the stereo on January, 18, 2005 and damaging the vehicle.

In the judgment, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli said that from looking at the accused’s criminal record it was evident that this was not the first time that he had broken the law. Furthermore, he had been given various opportunities by the courts to reform but he chose not to and in the circumstances a jail term was appropriate.

Police Inspector Anthony Portelli prosecuted.
