A man has been arrested and charged after he tried to throw a football loaded with drugs and mobile phones into the yard of a state prison in Michigan.

The throw in Jackson fell short, with the football - which reportedly contained heroin, marijuana, tobacco, three mobile phones and chargers - landing between two fences, not in the yard where prisoners exercise.

An officer at the G Robert Cotton Correctional Facility saw the man throw the football, and officers arrested the suspect.
