With a month to go for Christmas, some 40 young performers are busy preparing for Jack and the Beanstalk, a pantomime produced by the Masquerade Theatre Company.
Directed by Anthony Bezzina and staged at the Manoel Theatre, the show will feature renowned actors, such as the notorious Jo Zette playing the role of dame.
The cast will also include a number of newcomers, including Paul Cuschieri in the role of Jack. The talented team is busy preparing the costumes, set, music and choreography that should make this pantomime a magical experience.
Meanwhile, the team responsible for the creation, design, production, music and choreography includes Malcolm Galea, Kevin Abela, Jes Sciberras, Ernest Camilleri, Harry Borg and Gillian Zammit.
“We are completely immersed in the rehearsals. I am thrilled to be working with such a young and energetic cast. So many experienced and emerging artists are contributing to ensure a delightful, top-quality performance for children and adults alike,” said Mr Bezzina, who has contributed to over 14 pantomimes in the past years.
Masquerade has a long history of producing a formidable body of work: Comedies, musicals and classic plays.
But this pantomime is an opportunity to prepare a visually spectacular performance with the collaboration of various talented artists.
In Jack and the Beanstalk, the audience will follow the hero Jack in his magical adventure up the beanstalk and will meet lots of interesting characters such as Daisy the Cow, the Fairy Godmother, the Giant, the heroes, villains and of course Jo Zette.
The audience will be surprised to watch the beans turn into a huge beanstalk right before their eyes – the sky’s the limit as they start on an unusual journey.
Jack and the Beanstalk will run from December 22 to January 11. Tickets, which range from €10 to €17 for matinees and €10 to €19 for evening performances are available from the Manoel Theatre.
