Labour MEP candidate Ivan Grixti believed the international community should be mobilised to help with the problem of irregular migration.

As a small country, there was a limit to the number of migrants Malta can take, he says, and the country had to convince others that this was an international problem.

Countries in northern Europe had to acknowledge that the southern states were suffering from this problem but Malta also had to go a step further and to stop the exploitation of African states.
