The Institute of Tourism Studies cannot be left without a head as it must regain its credibility through proper management and direction, the Malta Union of Teachers said yesterday.

On Wednesday, the Tourism Ministry said that ITS executive director Henry Mifsud had suspended himself from the job, pending an investigation into alleged irregularities.

In a statement, the MUT urged the ministry to find an immediate replacement, noting that this was a very delicate period for the institute due to a number of upcoming audits. It also expressed its disagreement on the manner in which Mr Mifsud “moved himself out of the picture”.

The MUT also said it was holding talks with the ministry to solve a number of other pending issues.
