A lecturer and deputy headmaster of the ITS Hotel School in Qala has filed a judicial protest against the government claiming that he has not yet been paid for the overtime work he had done in setting up the school.

John Cassar, who works with the Institute for Tourism Studies (ITS), said that in 2007 he had been given the task of setting up the hotel school in Qala. He was responsible for everything from administration to laboratories and a restaurant and kitchens for teaching.

The school opened last October and began to accept students, however he never got paid for the extra hours that he had put in besides his own free time, the commute to and from the school in Qala to his house in Birkirkara every day.

He had also lost 45 days of vacation leave since he never used them up because of the work he had carried out. The protest was filed against the Ministry of Gozo, the Ministry Of Education, Culture, Employment and the Family and the Attorney General.

He is holding them responsible for damages and has given them two weeks to pay up.

Lawyers Michael Tanti Dougall and Mark Simiana signed the protest.
