A total of 29,451 residents went abroad in March, 20.7 per cent more than in the same months last year.
The number of tourist trips to EU countries stood at 25,570, to non-EU destinations at 3,881.
Both markets advanced by 19 and 31 per cent, respectively. The Easter holiday season, which this year began in March as opposed to April last year, was one of the main contributory factors to the increase.
The most popular destinations remained Italy and the UK but almost all European markets recorded increases when compared to last year.
