President Sergio Mattarella announced Thursday that no solution to Italy's political stalemate had emerged after consultations with the main parties, adding that a fresh push for a deal would begin next week.

"Over the next week, I will launch a new round of consultations to see if the possibility of forming a government, which today has not materialised, has advanced," Mattarella told reporters.
