Claudio Porsenna, a 36-year-old Italian, this morning pleaed guilty to cannabis trafficking and conspiracy to traffic 2.5kg of cannabis.

During the proceedings, the prosecution and the defence tried to agree on a sentence but didn't manage after the Attorney General asked for seven years imprisonment and a €14,000 fine.

The defence argued that their client was being discriminated against because another person involved in the same case but who handled 2kg was only jailed for a year, the sentence was reduced to six months on appeal.

The prosecution argued that the other man - who cannot be named by court order - collaborated with the police and the court, even by disclosing Porsenna as the person who supplied the drugs.

In all ten blocks of 250g of cannabis each were involved.

Judgement was deferred to Wednesday.
