An Italian company responsible for works on the new Parliament building has filed a judicial protest holding a Maltese supplier of stone responsible for the delays.

CFF Filiberti Srl filed its judicial protest against Q Stone Ltd. The latter had been appointed, following a tendering process, to supply stone blocks to cover the building facade.

The Italian company said the Maltese company that had to provide the stonework from Qala in Gozo did not deliver on the established timeframes, and CFF was now being fined €1,000 per day as a result of the delays.

It said the company had not yet supplied the quantity of stone agreed, with 60 cubic metres left to be delivered from a total of 2,000 cubic metres.

The Italian company also complained about the quality of the stone being provided, saying this was poor.

It held Q Stone responsible for damages.

Lawyers Andrew Grima and James Scerri Worley signed the protest.
