Students reading for the Computing and Information Systems honours degree at St Martin's Institute of IT, a teaching institute for the University of London, have retained the record achieved by their predecessors.

Fourteen out of a total of 28 graduates in BSc (Hons) Computing and Information Systems attained a first class honours degree.

They were conferred with their degree by the Chancellor of the University of London Princess Anne, in a ceremony celebrating the 150th anniversary of the University of London External Programme.

Another 10 students attained a second upper while the remaining attained a second lower. This year, the University of London has awarded three achievement awards and they have all been granted to St Martin's students.

"The fact that for five years running more than half of St Martin's graduates have attained a first class is quite unique because, in contrast, only two per cent of Computing and Information Systems students are conferred with a first class award in the rest of the world," a spokesman for the institute said.

Applications are now open for evening and full-time programmes starting in September.

An information meeting by David Brownrigg and Sarah Rauchas, directors from the University of London, and introduced by Charles Theuma, principal of St Martin's Institute of IT, will be held next Friday, at 6 p.m. at the Institute in Schembri Street, Ħamrun.

During this information meeting, details of the diploma and degree programmes in Creative Computing, Computing and Information Systems, and Information Systems and Management will be provided, as well as information regarding the myPotential scheme and the Malta Government Scholarship Scheme.

Those interested in attending this meeting are asked to phone 2123 5451 or send an e-mail to infodesk@stmartins.edu.
