An attack in the West Bank has killed an Israeli man and wounded a woman, the Israeli military said.

The couple were attacked by Palestinians armed with iron bars and axes at their home in the Jordan Valley, according to media reports. The woman managed to escape with minor injuries.

The military said it was too early to say whether the assault was a terror attack.

It said an investigation is under way and troops are searching the area.

It was the latest in a series of violent incidents in the West Bank.

A week ago a nine-year-old girl was shot and a month earlier two soldiers were killed, including one by a Palestinian who wanted to trade the body for a relative serving time in jail for shooting attacks.
