A Jerusalem court has lifted a gag order on a member of a fringe ultra-Orthodox Jewish group in Israel charged with trying to spy for Iran.

Yitzhak Bergal travelled to Berlin in 2011 and offered to collect information on Israel for Iranian embassy officials, Israel's Shin Bet domestic intelligence agency said in a statement.

On his return home, Bergal kept in touch with Iranian "elements" over the internet and public telephones near his Jerusalem home, the statement said.
