Israel will allow the Palestinians to deploy hundreds of security forces in the West Bank city of Jenin after they complete a US-funded training programme in Jordan, Israeli officials said.

Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak will inform Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad of the decision when they meet tomorrow, the officials said.

The US-funded training programme for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's forces got under way in Jordan in January.
