A screening of the 2011 film Limitless, followed by a CineXjenza discussion on topics raised by the film, will be held at St James Cavalier Cinema tomorrow at 7pm.

The film plot features frustrated author Eddie Morra (Bradley Cooper), who is struggling to make progress in both his professional and personal life. An old friend introduces him to an experimental pharmaceutical drug capable of letting him use 100 per cent of his brain.

Morra’s life is instantly transformed by this new limitless potential. But as he is catapulted into a world of financial investment and ruthless business moguls, he is forced to confront hit men, drastic side effects and an ever-dwindling stash of the precious pills.

As part of Brain Awareness Week, after the film there will be an open forum discussion during which a neuroscience researcher from the University of Malta will challenge the myth that ‘we only use 10 per cent of our brains’ and reveal other facts about the brain. Members of the audience will be invited by science communication experts to share their views and critically analyse themes raised in the film.

CineXjenza are science cinema events that promote discussion on topics at the intersection between science and society. It is supported by the Steam project and is run by the Malta Chamber of Scientists and Science Students’ Society in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv.
