The government has appointed former Judge Philip Sciberras to investigate information that some consignments of oil imports did not respect contract  specifications.

The investigation follows revelations made in the Public Accounts Committee which is investigating oil procurement procedures in 2010-2011. Members of the oil procurement committee had revealed instances when fuel imports had higher sulphur imports than laid down in contract conditions.

The government said that Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi in consultation with the prime minister has ordered an investigation. It will be headed by Judge Philip Sciberras.
