The Ministry for Tourism in a statement has denied comments made by Labour leader Alfred Sant in an interview being reproduced today in The Sunday Times and timesofmalta.com.

Dr Sant states that Where’s Everybody carried out work related to minister Francis Zammit Dimech’s electoral campaign as a kickback for being contracted to do work in connection with the Isle of MTV.

"This assertion is an outright lie and one that could possibly have regrettable consequences. Multi-national companies do not take lightly to being implicated in allegations of this nature," the ministry said.

"The facts of the matter are that the Ministry for Tourism and Culture was in no-way involved in the sub-contracting of production services for stage and filming in connection with the Isle of MTV. All contracting was done directly by MTV or through G7.

"The Ministry for Tourism and Culture strongly deplores this statement made by Dr Alfred Sant. Dr Alfred Sant has a duty to act responsibly and rather than indulging in mud slinging and spreading false rumours should verify facts before making unfounded statements," the ministry said.

It added that Dr Zammit Dimech will be instituting libel proceedings against Dr Alfred Sant in view of his assertions and has already called upon the Commissioner of Police to investigate these allegations.
