The International Al Jolson Society awarded writer and society member Lino Cassar the 'Dolores Kontowicz Presidential Award' last Monday for keeping Al Jolson's name alive through his articles.

The award was presented on behalf of the International Al Jolson Society by Vince Williams, the society's honorary member and representative in Malta.

The presentation ceremony was attended by family and society members and friends.

The Presidential Award was named after Dolores Kontowicz, who is recognised as the founder of the society. This yeark the society is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Mr Cassar is the second Maltese member to be awarded the award.

Various published articles by Mr Cassar about Al Jolson, including those published in The Sunday Times, were sent to society president Jan Hernstat as evidence to support the local society's branch request to nominate Mr Cassar for the award, last January.
