A man who admitted to stealing €2,300 worth of items from Inter Supporters Club to sustain his drug addiction, was sentenced a total of 48 months in prison as he had also breached the terms of a suspended sentence.

Shaun Micallef, 22, from Msida, pleaded guilty to all five charges in connection with a break-in at the Inter Club Pupi Zanetti Malta headquarters in Msida, on December 29, last year.

The stolen items included alcoholic drinks, a projector, a TV set and official Inter FC merchandise.

The court heard how the man had a strong drug addiction to the point that he needed medical attention during the investigation.

In its decision the court presided by Donatella Frendo Dimech sentenced the man to 24 months in jail over this case. This crime, however, was committed during the term of a suspended 24-month prison term and so the court ruled that this punishment would become effective imprisonment.

Inspector Fabian Fleri prosecuted while lawyer Joe Mizzi was defence counsel.
