While Snoop Dogg and other artists grace the Isle of MTV stage, volunteers from local NGO Inspire will be making their way to the crowds asking for donations and trying to set a record for the largest amount of charity raised at a single local event.
"MTV has provided our community with a unique and free music event year on year," says Joshua Farrugia, Inspire's Fundraising Manager. "All we ask is that the public return the favour by donating to a worthy cause. And at the same time, we will be trying to set a record for the largest amount of money raised at a single local event, so there's the added incentive of being part of history!"
The event will be held on Thursday night at the Granaries in Floriana. Inspire were given exclusive permission to raise money from MTV International thanks to the efforts of the Malta Tourism Authority.
Inspire said 100 volunteers will be making their way through the crowds wearing easily-recognisable matching t-shirts bearing the organisation's logo. The concert's local compares and DJs will also be making regular announcements to encourage contributions throughout the evening.
All funds raised on the night will go directly towards Inspire's disability services and programmes, which support over 1,000 children and adults across the islands. These programmes directly address the educational, therapeutic, social and recreational needs of the people they help, and focus on increasing their ability and encouraging their potential.
"Our vision is to see complete inclusion of people with disabilities living in the community – in schools, the workplace and in recreation," continues Mr Farrugia.
"The majority of the services we offer are given free, and thus we encourage the public to dig deep and donate generously so that we can keep on developing the facilities offered to people with disabilities, and to further contribute to their improved quality of life," he adds.
Those not attending the Isle of MTV concert, or who prefer to donate electronically, may do so by sending an SMS to 50617359 (€2.33) or 50618080 (€4.66).
