A police inspector was injured yesterday morning after he was allegedly assaulted by a motorist who was asked to stop by roadside police near Mdina.

The inspector, who stopped the BMW car carrying foreign number plates near the roundabout known as Ta’ Srina at around 11.30am, received medical attention though he was not seriously hurt.

The 50-year-old driver from Mqabba, who allegedly had blood on his face after the incident, was arrested.

According to the police, the driver became aggressive with everyone on site, including his wife who was seated inside the vehicle.

The incident caused traffic jams in the area.
