Far-out concept cars make fine eye candy, but in the real world it's the inside of a car that really has to deliver.

Toyota has turned conventional design on its head and created the Auris. From the tiniest switch to the eye-catching sculpted centre console, Toyota promises every interior detail has been crafted to create the most engaging driving experience.

Starting with the driver, a more natural driving position has been developed with the steering wheel further back and the gear leaver raised in the console. The console itself features a bold bridged design that almost floats in the centre of the car. It brings all the controls to an ideal ergonomic position to make changing gears and applying the handbrake easy, and even pleasurable.

The cabin of the Auris is a uniquely well considered space, offering interior dimensions previously unheard of in its class, and nearly matching those of vehicles a whole class up. Head room is exceptional and by pushing the windscreen as far forward as possible, Toyota engineers have ensured that there's plenty of leg room. Finally, clever design has eliminated the tunnel carrying the exhaust, giving a flat rear floor so centre rear seat passengers can enjoy exactly the same levels of comfort as their neighbors to the left and right.

Boot capacity is generous and by employing the one-touch folding seat system, load space can be increased to 1,758 litres in an instant.

The Auris has a high waistline, wide shoulders and short overhangs with the wheels pushed into the corners, but is still immensely sporty looking. Bold wheel arches and a fluid single form for the bonnet, bumper and front wings present a polished look.
