Some time ago, I had to chair a public function at the Corinthia Hotel, Attard.

I tried parking in the “blue-sticker” slot but another blue-sticker holder occupied it. Following several attempts at parking elsewhere, I had no choice but to park one car away from the blue-sticker sign but protruding some 60cm onto the reserved parking for coaches. These still had sufficient space to park and I was not obstructing anyone.

In any case, a hotel employee assured me that the coaches would not be back before 4 p.m.

An hour-and-a-half later I returned to the car to discover that a local warden, imagining himself/herself to be Mother Theresa, had booked me.

I really do not understand this obtuse attitude of some local wardens who without any consideration or compassion issue tickets whatever the case may be.

I have travelled all over Europe and have always been shown the greatest consideration by the traffic police and wardens alike. Invariably, I was directed to park in a space that was most convenient to my handicap needs. On one occasion I was instructed to park in the space reserved for police cars!

Why can’t some local wardens be more understanding about handicapped parking (I find that the local police tend to be more reasonable)?

If they don’t have the sensitivity and common sense, their superiors should sensitise them to the difficulties the handicapped face.

They should give them the appropriate instructions to close one eye when the parking does not obstruct or cause danger.
