The University Students' Council has expressed concern at the findings of the report issued by the Board of Inquiry appointed to evaluate the events that led to the suspension of funds managed by the EUPA.

"KSU believes that the fact that a number of critical observations were repeatedly not dealt with adequately by the Agency is of great concern and raises questions as to why these were not tackled in a timely manner. KSU condemns the fact that the notification that the programmes may be suspended had been given by the Commission as early as August last year, and that the necessary precautions for this not to happen were not taken. The lengthy delays by those concerned could have been avoided, especially in the light of the fact that as elicited in point 5.5 of this report, action was taken too late in the day where the suspension could have otherwise been avoided."

The council said that although the inquiry was a positive step forward, it had not resolved anything for students who were still being held back from completing their projects and plans under the YiA and Life Long Learning Programmes.

"The current status quo is still unacceptable for students," it said.

"KSU believes that the necessary disciplinary steps must be taken, but equally important is the fact that leaving students in the dark in this manner is unacceptable. KSU believes that students should be given replies, in order for them to be able to proceed with their plans and studies abroad.

It asked if students who were refused by the University of their first preference because of the situation shall be given a chance to go to their second University preference instead.

Furthermore, it was still unclear who would be financing the grants to be given to students for them to be able to participate in these exchanges, and whether the students would be refunded for the expenses incurred because of these programmes.
