An inquiry in the operations of Corradino Correctional Facilities has been concluded and the report has been passed on to the Attorney General and Police Commissioner, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

The inquiry had to investigate reports of alleged shortcomings in the prison. It also had to look into report in The Sunday Times that a notorious prisoner, Leli Camilleri known as Il-Bully, was running the show behind bars.

The ministry said in a statement that the board, appointed last August, was made up of Emanuel Cassar, Mary Anne Agius and Martin Scicluna.

The board recommended a number of steps and new administrative measures. It felt their report should be passed on to the AG and Commissioner of Police for the required action to be taken, if this was felt necessary.

The ministry said it reserved the right to take the decisions it felt were necessary after the said authorities decided whether there were steps which could be taken in view of the inquiry’s conclusions.

As the report was currently being analysed by the AG and the police, the ministry felt it was not wise to publish it at this stage so as not to hinder its analyses and any investigations which might be necessary.
