A 45-year-old prison inmate was this morning charged with a plethora of thefts including everything from an air-conditioner to a tabernacle 10 years ago.

Joseph Cini also known as il-Pele, pleaded not guilty to stealing an air-conditioner, ceramics, paintings, household items, a chiller and the tabernacle from the Salib ta l-Għolja chapel in Siġġiewi. The thefts allegedly took place between October 31, 1999 and January 23 the following year,

He also pleaded not guilty to handling stolen property and relapsing.

The police were waiting for the case of an accomplice to draw to a close before charging Mr Cini so that person could be used as a witness against Mr Cini.

Police Inspector Jeffrey Cilia prosecuted.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Cini.
