SLIEMA 3 - HIBS -2

Sliema Wanderers’ winning run in the Relegation Pool continued today when they edged past Hibernians 3-2 at the National Stadium.

The Wanderers took the lead on 62 minutes when Obinna Obiefule was fouled in the area by Matt Clarke and from the ensuing penalty Jackson Lima drilled the ball past Hibernians goalkeeper Daniel Balzan.

Hibernians soon fought back and drew level on 70 minutes when Andrew Cohen controlled the ball just outside the area and curled in a fine shot that flew past the Sliema goalie.
Sliema regained their lead four minutes later and it was again Jackson Lima whose dipping shot from a free-kick flew into the bottom corner of the net.

The Paolites again drew level 11 minutes from time when Triston Caruana sped in the area and although his first shot was blocked he picked up the rebound and lashed the ball past the goaler.

When everything pointed that the game would finish in a draw, Sliema struck the winner. Substitute Ryan Dalli was brought down in the area by Keith Tanti with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza stepped up for the kick and buried the ball past Balzan.
