Now that bus routes have been stabilised and the network suggested by many local councils has been implemented, it is most opportune for Transport Malta to publish a pamphlet stating destinations and times served by all route buses in Malta and Gozo for distribution to all households.

It is indeed difficult to cancel overnight the public perception that Valletta is still the only hub. Such a directory should allot two pages for each locality – one page showing destination and time of departure from the locality and the opposite page giving the time of departure from the other end of the route.

It was only by coincidence that I discovered there was a direct link from Qormi to Marsascala. I am sure enough sponsors will be found to foot the bill for such an important and useful publication.

Another initiative could be taken by all secondary schools, particularly State schools, to start lessons at different times between 7.30am and 8.30am. As in other European countries this should not be mandatory but it should be left up to each school to decide.

Sea transport from the Inner Harbour area, which has been a huge success, should be augmented by including a ferry service from Kalkara to serve the needs of the expanding locality, Xgħajra, Smart City and Żabbar.

More publicity is expected about the excellent ferry service from St Theresa Steps in Cospicua to Valletta. I believe a stop at Senglea Point would also be an encouragement for the people of Senglea to use the ferry. The ferry services should be included in the traffic directory.

Besides being a very enjoyable experience, sea transport will surely alleviate the traffic congestion during rush hours.
