The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices in August stood at 1.4 per cent.

The annual rate a year earlier was 0.8 per cent.

The National Statistics Office said the latest upward impacts were mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, package holidays and garments, respectively.

The main downward impact was due to lower fuel prices.

The 12-month moving average rate was 0.9 per cent.
