Inflation as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices stood at 1.2 per cent in July, compared to 0.6 per cent in July last year, the NSO said today.

It said inflation was pushed up by   the Food and Non-alcoholic Beverages Index (0.4 percentage points), mmiscellaneous goods and services Index (0.2 percentage points) and recreation and culture (0.2 percentage points). These were mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, services offered by retirement homes and subscriptions at fitness centres and gymnasia respectively.

The main downward impact was recorded in the transport index (0.3 percentage points), due to lower fuel prices.

The 12-month moving average rate was 0.8 per cent.

Meanwhile, Eurostat reported that Euro area annual inflation was 0.2% in July 2015, stable compared to June. In July 2014 the rate was 0.4%.

European Union annual inflation was 0.1% in July 2015, also stable compared to June. A year earlier the rate was 0.5%.
