The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index stood at 1.35 per cent in October from 0.35 per cent a year previously.

The NSO said the main upward impacts on annual inflation were recorded in the Food Index (0.66 percentage points), the Recreation and Culture Index (0.32 percentage points) and the Beverages and Tobacco Index (0.24 percentage points). This was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, school fees and cigarettes.

The largest downward impacts were brought about by the Transport and Communication Index (0.47 percentage points) and the Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index (0.07 percentage points). This was mainly due to a reduction in the prices of fuel and gas.

The twelve-month moving average rate was 1.02 per cent.
